Investment Analyst

Position Summary

 
The Investment Analyst position provides a unique opportunity for new or recent graduate to gain broad exposure to and experience in institutional investing. The Investment Analyst will be an active participant in the Investment Office and assist in many facets of the investment process. Working under the direction of the Managing Director of Investments, the Investment Analyst will support the investment team with investment manager diligence, ongoing portfolio analysis and other investment-related support in the management of Swarthmore College’s $2.7 billion endowment. The Investment Analyst will also participate in due diligence meetings and assist in the preparation of investment proposals and presentations.
 
This is a three-year appointment that is an entry level position designed to provide broad exposure to the investment management business.  This appointment is expected to start in July 2023.
 
Primary Responsibilities
 
  • Assist the Managing Director of Investments:
  • in the monitoring of portfolios, performance and organizational issues of existing investment managers.
  • in the due diligence with respect to prospective investment managers/funds.
  • in the preparation of Investment Committee meeting materials.
  • in the preparation of materials for investment manager meetings and trips.
  • Attend investment manager meetings and annual meetings when appropriate.
  • Write up notes of investment manager meetings and minutes of Investment Committee conference calls.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Performs other assignments as directed by the Managing Director of Investments.
 


Required Skills and Abilities 

  •  Must have a keen interest in a broad range of investment topics and a willingness to learn about new investment strategies and concepts.
  • Must have knowledge of financial and investment theory, economic and political history, and an understanding of the current investment environment.
  • Excellent written communication, oral communication, and quantitative skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word are essential, as well as an aptitude to learn other database tools and concepts.
  • Poised and mature individual with an ability to represent Swarthmore College to the investment community and to appropriately handle confidential and proprietary information.
  • Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to function collegially as a member of a small team.
  • Willingness and ability to travel both domestically and internationally.

Required Credentials
  • Bachelor's degree required.
